Recently, I went 7 days without washing my hair. This may feel like an eternity to some, and to others it may not look like a long time. To give you context, I usually wash my hair twice a week. So how did I pull off this remarkable hair feat, while still leave the house with my head held high each day? Two words: Dry Shampoo.
Dry shampoo helps keep your hair feeling and looking clean in between washes, even when you’re sweating every single day. During those no-poo days, not only did I fit in some serious gym workouts and hit up Hatha Yoga classes, I also still went about my normal work week without wearing a hat.
Here is how I found the five dry shampoos, which I’d tried, stacked against each other on a score from 1 to 10.
1 = I might just as well wash my hair
10 = The best in the business!
1. Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-powder Dry Shampoo Powder 2 oz.
Overall: 4
Scent: 7
Formula: 6
Packaging: 4
Days without washing hair: 2
Review:
This Bumble and Bumble product claims that it equals volume, style extender and parts dry shampoo. However, when I got this, I found the packaging is really cumbersome and takes too long to unwrap the whole thing. The small spout meant I had to cover smaller hair sections and make sure the powder was worked through. Its scent might be its main plus, which was light and fresh.
2. Principessa Beauty Notte Breeze Dry Shampoo for Lighter/Darker Shades
Overall: 6
Scent: 8
Formula: 6
Packaging: 6
Days without washing hair: 4

This stuff smells like chocolate cake, love it! The great part of this formula of this product is it comes in 2 shades, one for lighter hair and one for darker, which makes the powder easier to blend with your roots. This dry shampoo allowed me to go longer without washing my hair than usual.
3. Arrowroot Powder Organic
Overall: 7
Scent: 0 (fragrance-free)
Formula: 7
Packaging: 0 (It depends upon how you store this 🙂 )
Days without washing hair: 4

A friend recommended this, so I gave it a go naturally, despite that I doubted if a simple ingredient could do its job. With this option, you can use your own application device which works for you (such as a small glass mason jar with lid) by putting the powder in it. You can also add cocoa powder for color and smell, or several drops of essential oil (such as peppermint or cinnamon) — not too much, the ideal number of drops is 2 to 4, otherwise you will end up an oil-slick.
4. Oribe Dry Texturing Hair Spray, 8.5 Ounce
Overall: 7.5
Scent: 8
Formula: 8
Packaging: 6
Days without washing hair: 5
Review:
I tried both powder and spray dry shampoos, and my top picks are primarily powders. However, this product did stand out in a couple of ways: it added thickness to my hair which made it very easy to style, plus its formula didn’t leave any residue.
